North Dakota is one of the top-ranked states in wind energy potential and several wind projects have been installed throughout the state. The Trust has been working on implementation of voluntary conservation measures stemming from development of one wind project located south of Minot, North Dakota.
Perennial Energy Crops
North Dakota is one of the top-ranked states in potential for perennial energy crops, especially prairie grasses. Before agriculture producers will grow perennial energy crops or companies will build conversion plants or biorefineries, more information is needed about perennial energy crops. The Trust, with funding provided by the North Dakota Industrial Commission and several other entities, continues to support a North Dakota State University study to evaluate perennial energy crops. The study is evaluating the production, appropriate grass species, harvest frequency, stand maintenance and longevity of perennial energy crops.
